Treading on "what if", but what about Gi

<HTML>Hi,

If this is too much of a "what if" scenario, let me know so I won't make similar posts.

I've often wondered about the strategic impact of Gibraltar being in British hands during WWII. Was it such that the war in the Mediterranean might have been different had it been in Spain's (or even Axis) possession? How did it affect U-boat operations? Could Axis control of Gibraltar provided enough leverage to protect U-boats attempting to return to the Atlantic from the Mediterranean?

I know there have been debates about the strategic value of Malta, but I've not seen any similar discussion about Gibraltar.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Regards,

Tom</HTML>
