<HTML>Hi William,
This gesture,as impressed you are by, is traditional at sea when two war ships are sailing closer together. By the time, this gesture is more completed because casualties were important in case, and it's a special sign of friendship for the nationality of the sub. But every time, a simple gesture is a signal of international friendship inter-navies. The younger captain saluts the old one.
