The Strathallan was torpedoed by the U-562 commanded by H.Hamm in 1942.
She was hit by one torpedoe which was fortunate as she was fully loaded with passengers at the time most of whom were safely rescued.
You will find some good details of the sinking in a book by Geoffrey Jones Called
U-Boat aces and their fates which deals with the sinking of large ships by U-boats during ww2. While it is probably out of print you maight be able to source a copy from a library, or Amazon.com or bookfinders.com.
