<HTML>Hi Pete

Why just U-boat wrecks? All vesses that have been lost, where someone has died on, could and may be classed as graves, not just war graves. However, if divers had not, and do not spend the time searching and diving the wrecks, probably none of them would have been found and identified. That would also leave relatives not knowing where their loved ones final resting place is at, in the majority of cases. The last boat to be found off the east coast of the USA, even surprised the German authorities and, if you watched the programme, you would have seen the joy on the face of one of the relatives of a crewman, just because she now knows where the man lies.
But, there is another way to look at the situation!! If there had been gold, or some other form of treasures on the wreck, whether it was a submarine or not, the wreck would have been salvaged, by which ever government it belonged to, without any real thought to the crewmen who died on it.
I have dived many wrecks over the past 30-years, including U-boats and have never seen any sign of human remains on them. However, I respect wrecks, especially where someone has died, not just U-boat wrecks. I feel that so long as you look and don't touch, there is no problem. Lets face it, people walk around graveyards without touching.
