The last US submarine lost was the Bullhead Lt/Cdr. Edward R. Holt Jr. She reported having passed through Lombok Straight and was attacked by a Japanese Mitsubishi Ki-51 "Sonia" with two 60Kg bombs both of which hit the sub. From the pilots report, after the boat dissappeared he saw "a great amount of gushing water and air bubbles rising in the water". The attack took place just North of Bali.
