What a shining exemple of a clash of cultures!
The Anglo American juridical system allows a trial with rules set up after the fact. Romanistic juridical system allowes trial only with rules set up before the fact.
The reported piece of history demonstrates that Constitutional Rights are a luxury somebody can't afford on hard times. I like to remember a Napoleon's statement: the Constiution should be short and obscure.
