<HTML>Hi all
Thanks for your posts
Op-16-Z
Copy No. 29 of 49
NAVY DEPARTMENT
OFFICE OF THE CHIEF OF NAVAL OPERATIONS WASHINGTON
FINAL REPORT – G/SERIAL 45
REPORT ON THE INTERROGATION OF SURVIVORS FROM U-233
SUNK 5 JULY 1944
CHAPTER V. EARLY HISTORY OF U-233
COMMISSIONING
U-233 was commissioned at Germania Werft, Kiel, on 22 September 1943.
"This photograph, recovered from POW personal effects, is believed to be of U-233's commissioning. U-233's conning tower and anti-aircraft armament was modified before her first and only cruise."
(Source: www.uboatarchive.net)
What I´d found rare was the deck mounting abaft the flak modified/converted conning tower, like some of you also had.
So despite being recovered from a POW U-233 crewmember , the photo shows U-220 (Axel, thanks for your detailed post).
Best regards
P.S.
Axel, besides U-117, U-515 also carried three 2 cm twins on her fifth patrol (sailed on 1st November 1943) as from Erminio Bagnasco and from US Navy intelligence report of the capture of U-515 (Uboatarchive.net).
