Re: UD-2 (nope) UD-3 and UD-5

UD 3 was originally ex-Netherlands submarine 0 25. She was uncompleted
and was scuttled in the dockyard in May 1940. The boat began again in June
and was completed by the Germans and commissioned into the Kriegsmarine on
8/6/1941, after she was launched on 1/5/1940 . After some experimental use & training duties, UD 3 become operational in Oct 1942. On 3/11/1942 she left for operations in the Central Atlantic, she only did one patrol and torpedoed 1 ships named MV Indra which sunk near St Paul Rocks. UD 3 return back to Lorient on 7/1/1943. UD 3 returned to Kiel and was taken out of active war service. She resumed training duties at the U-Abwehrschule. UD 3 was decommissioned on 13/10/1943, after being badly damaged in a bombing raid on Kiel, She was finally scuttled there on 3/5/1945.
As to UD 5 she also an ex-Netherlands submarine 0 27. She too was commissioned into the Kriegsmarine on 1/11/1941,.
The boat was still under construction when taken by the Germans as a prize on the 14/5/1940. Work was completed and the boat was launched on 26/9/1941.
UD 5 become operational in August 1942, and on 30/8/1942 she left for the Central Atlantic. By October UD 5 was operating in an area W of Freetown.
On the 29/10/1942, UD 5 only torpedoed and sank 1 ship the SS Primrose Hill
NW of the Cape Verde Islands. She put in to Lorient on 12/11/42.
UD 5 went on to become a school training boat, she was surrendered at Bergen on
9/5/1945 and left there on the 30th for an assembly area in Britain. On 13/7/1945
the boat return back to the Netherland Navy as again O 27.
The submarine was finally decommissioned on 14/11/1959 and broken up in 1961.
