Question:- During World War II, did British lighthouse observe the blackout? Were they attacked by the enemy?
Answer:- "During World War II, Trinity House still staffed lighthouses around the British coast and kept them in use for short periods in response to requests from the Admirality.
On Monday, December 18, 1944, Trinity House in Penzance received a message from Wolf Rock lighthouse that a German U-boat had collided with it.
Lighthouse keeper Jack Cherrett saw the German U-boat come bouncing out of the sea onto the rocks --'High and dry she came,' he said -- before a huge wave carried submarine U-1209 back into the water, where she threshed her way clear. But she was holed and sank within an hour.
The German commander was picked up and started to tell his story, but then fainted and died on the spot. This is the only known instance of a submarine being sunk by a lighthouse."

My questions are:-
1, How/why did Oblt.z.S. Hülsenbeck die so quickly & so young? - he was just 3 days away from his 25th birthday.
2, Did any of the other crew members survive?
3, How come that U-1209 got so close to Wolf Rock, a well known danger to shipping, that the U-boat was 'thrown onto the rock'?
Interested and thanks for any information,
Regards
