"My questions are:-
1, How/why did Oblt.z.S. Hülsenbeck die so quickly & so young? - he was just 3 days away from his 25th birthday."

I read in Uboat book (published about 4 years ago) that Hulsenbeck was picked up by the frigate HMCS Montreal (the other rescue ship being HMCS Ribble). The book stated that he died from a heart attack if I remember correctly. The deceased crewman picked up by the Ribble took his own life. The Ribble crew tried to rescue him but he wouldn't take the line thrown towards him and was eventually overcome by the elements.
