1.It was reported that the Commanding Officer died of a heart attack on board the Naval boat after they were rescued.

2. Out of 51 men on the U boat, 42 survived, picked up by HMCS Montreal from Penzance in Cornwall. I crew member was ordered to stay and scuttle the u boat. He was blown out of the conning tower hatch shortly before she sank. Hans Claussen was reported to have died later in hospital.

3. The Navigational Chief Petty Officer reported to the Commanding Officer that they were too close to the rock and whilst the two of them were involved in a heated argument, the submarine hit Wolf Rock. They reported that they were about to attack a ship in the vicinity. Strangely, no ships were known to have been in that vicinity and my Grandfather (who's name was Charles Cherrett, not Jack) did not see any shipping from the Wolf Rock Lighthouse other than the submarine. He was Senior AK Keeper in charge during that time.

I hope that this answers some of your questions.
