U-boat lost off the Tyne

<HTML>Hi Guys

I have had a query from a diver colleague who says that his friends once dived on a submarine off the River Tyne area in the 1970s, but they were never able to get back to it or find her again. He thinks it was a U-boat, however the only U-boats I have on record as being lost in that area was UC 32 off Sunderland and UB 115 off Newbiggen, Northumberland and both these boats were WW1. The only British sub was HMS UNITY off Blyth in 1940.
Has anybody got any other information on this please and were any U-boats attacked off or lost off the Tyne during WW2.?

Cheers Ron</HTML>
