<HTML>Shaeffer wrote a book specialy for the Argentina Navy called "Geheimnis um U-977". In this book, Shaeffer afirm that in July 4th, 1945, he crossed the Ecuator at 30º Long W. In this position was the Brazilian Cruiser "Bahia". This cruiser received two fido torpedos by the U-977. By this action died 336 Marines 4 of them were USA Marines. Before arrive to this position the U-977 fired an aircraft of the USAF and destroyed him. The crew of this aircraft were rescue by the Brazilian Air Force. Aproximally about 2000 Marines (Some from the Graff Von Spee and others from U-boats) are living in Argentina until now.
