I was on Maria from 70 till Emily arrived, then went back to signal school for killick's course, and 72 to 74 incl. served on all three boats because of injuries or illness to other comms rates. In 72 I spent a total of 21 days ashore, the rest of that year I was either at sea on one of the boats or on some kind of watch (included casing K****r). What a ball!
As far as I remember the collision between Galatee and Emily Hobhouse was as a result of a misunderstanding of translated commands (English/French/Afrikaans) and the officer of the watch on Emily was Lt Howell.
Are you a member of the South African Naval Submarine Association? That is the only organisation I know of, but haven't investigated any others.
I will fill in more detail at another time
