<HTML>Hi Franz,
The fall foul of galatea and Emily Hobhouse (collision in surface) appended as the two sub sailed near french harbour of Toulon.
Galatea sailed out and Emily sailed toward dockyards. So, in the nigth, it is difficult for the officer on the watch to see submarine-ligths which were not big.
Then, Garth explanations are rigth.
Now, there are two channels to sail in this restricted waters (like in channel sea or Ouessant traffic lines near Brest).
There is not french Daphnee club but if your french is as good as your fellows one (I trained them in 1970's), you must go on french forum "S.M.MINERVE@FREE.FR" who is to memories of our sub friends who died in this accident (1968). And collision of galatea and E.H. was described.
regards to you and your fellows of south Africa Navy.</HTML>
