<HTML>Hi Keith, the Kriegsmarine had a uboat base in Singapore. U 181 and several other uboats were stationed there from time-to-time.

I have many nice photos of the U 181 crew as they were in Singapore. Four photos show three U 181 men being awarded their German Crosses in Gold by Knights Cross Recipient Kapitan zur See Wilhelm Dommes. One of the DKiG vets is a personal friend of mine and is a very nice and generous fellow.

When Germany surrendered, all these uboats were turned over to the Japanese Navy and the crews were interned. U 181 was renamed S- something or other or RO- something or other, I forget which. Also, if I remember remotely correctly, U 181 was scuttled by the Japanese at the ending of the war.</HTML>
