<HTML>Ioannis:

The torpedoes were aimed using a torpedo aiming computer; an analog electro-mechanical computer that takes in the submarine's speed and courrse, and the target's course, speed, distance, and relative bearing and computes the proper moment for firing and desired course for the torpedoes. All the major navies had them, of varying degree of sophistication.

This procedure was the same whether the forward or aft torpedoes were used.

The data on target heading etc was obtained using the periscope when submerged, and binoculars mounted on a special pedastal connected to a heading readout below when on the surface. There was a mount on the bridge for when using the forward torpedoes, and one on the aft deck for when using the aft torpeodes.</HTML>
