How could the UZO (aiming binoculars) be used to look at aft targets if it is mounted on the forward bridge? It would have no field of regard aft of the ship because of the periscope shears.

US boats had a separate aiming device on the cigarette deck to aim at aft targets - the one on the bridge was only used for forward targets. They both connected to the TDC down below in the Conning Tower. Guess I was too generic, but I thought the Germans used the same set-up.
