Very simple - the UZO pedestal slightly off center to port at the fwd part of the bridge had a clear sweep through 360 degrees, provided periscopes & antennae were retracted (usually the case during a surface attack) and the barrel of the flak in the Wintergarden was trained horizontal.
Even with barrel pointing skywards it is not much of an obstruction with a comparatively much larger target behind.
