Die `Tenne`

In the course of a description of Christmas under the sea (`Nasses Eichenlaub`, by `Teddy` Suhren, p 45), mention is made of a mini-tree erected `im Bugraum`, and another `auf der sogenannten \"Tenne\"`. `Die Tenne`, according to my dictionary, is the `barn-` or `threshing-floor`. Can anyone enlighten me as to which part of the U-boat this is ?
