<HTML>Gentlemen:
I own two copies of \"The Sea Devil\" by Lowell Thomas. One is a 1926 hard cover and the other is a 1962 paperback reprint. I presume this is to what you refer.
My interest in Count von Luckner is that when he attempted to escape from New Zealand, seven of the eight men who went with him were German merchant marine cadets. One of these young men was named von Zartowsky. In October 1942, the German raider MICHEL transferred 72 British and American merchant seamen prisoners to the replenishment vessel UCKERMARK commanded by the same von Zartowsky. I was one of those 72!
That our treatment aboard the UCKERMARK was quite lenient certainly may be related to von Zartowsky\'s POW experience of 20-odd years earlier.
Cordially.
