I just read your message after a long absence from this forum ... and also have great interest in this special part of WWII.
My father served on U-511 for four patrols and ended up in Japan as LI of UIT-24 after U-511 was sold to Japan ... I have pictures of the transfer ceremony.
I'm retired US-Navy ... 10 yrs in P-3 ASW operations ... and did several presentations for the Museum of Science and Industry to raise funds for an enclosed building for U-505 ...
