Hello Urs,

The position you quoted in US Naval History is correct. The southern tip of the Italian minefield mentioned in my post is 37°25.6' N, 09°53.7' E, that is about 1,200 metres to the north of the reported mining. The western end of the German minelaying operation I was quoting is 37°25.2' N, 09°54.4' E that is only 600 metres away.

Note that the position of this field is omitted in the KTB of 3rd Flotilla (mentioned in the Kurzbericht section. it is referred to it only as minefield 2102 and accuracy as 0.75 nautical mile) but I found it in Italian records as they were informed of German operations. Some German documents can be found there.

Given that in those days accurate positions were often wanting, either minefield could be the culprit although the German one is closer.

Best regards,

Platon
