<HTML>My feeling about the nickname was always that they looked like big garbage cans, or ash cans. I think they were about the size of 50-gallon drums, often used as garbage cans, too. We still used them in the Army as garbage cans for outside of buildings. In the winter, fires were built in them for warming up outside.

Civilians used them, too. If you\'ve seen movies like Rocky, you see folks hanging out on street corners warming up around them.

Anyway, I think that is where the nickname came from. </HTML>
