Hi Davenz,
Yes - Horst Bredow a former a former U-boat officer and founder of the Archiv speaks English quite well. Additionally the well known author Jak Showell Spends part of the year there helping with the English language inquiries.
Don't forget to send a donation (in euros if possible) with your inquiry. They are a charity & they don't receive any government funds at all. Even postage for replies to the large number of inquiries from all over the world is a big expense for them. Every penny they spend on anything has to come from donations or membership fees.
Horst and his wife (who are not youngsters anymore) do almost all of the work by themselves although they do have an unpaid volunteer some of the time.
If you would like to support their efforts (Horst and his wife have helped many hundreds of people researching their family history and a good many film makers, authors and historians researching the U-boat war over the years), join the archiv. You will get a discount on things you purchase from them and an annual "U-boat Archiv Series Report" on various U-boat related topics (usually edited by Jak Showell) that's worth the membership fee all by itself in my opinion. Members that visit the Archiv in person are also allowed to pay a daily fee and do their own research while they are there.
They have a huge collection of U-boat related photos and documents there and their collection of artifacts grows larger every year as a large number of former U-boat men & their families continus to leave their artifacts and photo albums from the war to the Archive when they pass away.
Regards,
Ken Dunn
