Ok, I misunderstood. I thought you wanted a list of all thru hull fittings of the pressure hull.
The one left open on U505 was the sea strainer access plate on (if I recall correctly) port diesel. I do not believe that they had opened the identical twin for the starboard diesel. Had they done that, U505 would have filled with water at twice the rate, and we would not have had a U-Boat to inspect in Chicago.
To answer your question, the number is 2 (one for ea. engine).
