<HTML>As far as I know, there are no public patches. Not for CAOD, at least. There are/were come for the original AOD, but they don\'t address the kind of problems you describe.

I definitely agree about the \"escorts travel through merchants unharmed\" bug being one of the worst non-crashing ones. I definitely won\'t forget how I first found out about that one. At that time I had mastered the game enough to be quite successful U-boat CO, but not yet enough to know all the tricks. Convoy battle was real fun in those days: I could obtain very nice scores, but there still was some real risk and real tension (nowadays it has become too much of a routine job, unfortunately).

Anyway, on the mission in quesion, I\'d been tracking a big convoy for nearly a week during the autumn of 1941 or so, attacking at every opportunity and scoring nice hits. During the last night, it got very foggy, so I was happily sailing on the surface in the middle of the convoy, using the deck gun whenever possible, especially after having used all torpedos. A big medal was waiting for me at home, having sunk about 100.000 tons on a single mission (at 100% realism)! Up to that point this was by far the most enyoyable mission I ever played (and years later it still is, even though I regularly obtain much higher scores now).

With only about 40 shells remanining, a big tanker was to be my next (and probably final) victim. Half way though, an nearby escort, that I had been watching for a while already, spotted me and started to close in. So I speeded up to 18 knots, overtook my victim and then cut accross her bow, all the time shelling her and hoping that that she might still explode before I had to crash dive. The idea behind the move explicitly was that the escort would have to take more or less the same path, which with sime luck should have given me just enough time to get the job done. Not so. The darned thing sailed right through the tanker, straight at me. :-( My emergency crash dive ended at 100 or so meters depth with a bunch depth charges blowing me to pieces. Aargghh! I found it so unfair and frustrating to have my most enjoyable mission ever ended like that, that I didn\'t play the game again till a few months later.

I\'ve since done hundreds of other missions, though. CAOD can be mucho fun, despite all the bugs. Now if only I could ever relive that one mission...</HTML>
