Yes it is difficult to identify the outline (sorry can't spell silhouette) of large ships be they Merchant or War.
So, how much harder is it to identify something small, close to the surface and, perhaps with a sea running??
All nations submarines are vastly different when viewed close together but at sea............
This is the place to discuss general issues related to the U-boat war or the war at sea in WWII.
