<HTML>Hi kpp and 2000,

Liszt was not the greatest composer but an excellent pianist who was an expert in creating variations on pieces of music from other composers. I know he was greatly into Brahm and Tchaikovsky\'s piano masterworks. I know he tried to compose his own music but it was never as popular as his variations on the more famous composers. He was of German ancestry as Klaus-Peter pointed out correctly and I think the preludes you were talking about were variations on German composers\' pieces. I know he did a lot of Beethoven variations too, not to forget the wonderful works of Paganini.

Anyway, I hope you\'re doing well. Classical music is a dear hobby and an enjoyment of mine, so I couldn\'t resisit the lure of the thread :-)

Best wishes to you both,

Fin</HTML>
