My German is almost nil but I did notice that the WILHELM GUSTLOW sinking is mentioned in the letter.It was indeed a greater disaster than the TITANIC going by the numbers of dead alone.I believe the liner was very close to land too when she was torpedoed by a soviet submarine.This story is well known in Germany but has been stifled somewhat here in the UK and over in the United States.
