besides the general human tragedy, we have to note that the sinking of the Gustloff was the greatest disaster for the german U-boot forces in WWII.
On board were about 1000 officers and men from the 1. and 2. U-Bootlehrdivision, about 200 crew members and about 400 female naval personnels.</HTML>
