You are quite right !
It seems to bee an awful lot of people,
and I also doubt there were any passenger listings.

Earlier records I read from mentioned 5000 dead,
Rohwer&Hümmelchen -92 edition says \"more than 6000 passengers on board,
564 are rescued\",
Mercer says \"some 7000 people died\",
but the most recent researched source I found on www.feldgrau.com
And it was feldgrau´s statistics I cited.

I think exact numbers dead never can be established,
but it is no doubt, the worst marine disaster in history!
