<HTML>Hello Uboat fans
Just to pass on a little info on the mysterious uboat off of PEI, Canada
On a Sunday morning, May 15th 1943, an Avro Anson (#39) flying out of Brackley Air training center known as No.1 Ground Recon School flew out early in the morning and proceded to approximately 4600N X 6200W and at a level of 100 feet sighted and attacked a submarine on the surface. They dropped two 250lb Amatol depth charges, and on subsequent fly overs sighted wreckage and fuel/oil slicks.
If U869 could make it to New Jersey without anyone knowing, I am sure a confident commander like Karl-Marks could have attempted the mission, and been here at the same time as/or after/ Franke.
Last October, we went to the area and obtained a good sonar reading on a large object, 200ft long, with a lousy commercial sonar (for fishing). Investigation is further commencing in 2001 with the advent of a side scan sonar being available.
The wreck lies in 203ft of water and the bottom is very soft, and it appears the wreck is sometimes covered by sand.
The lat and long is a very general co-ordinate, dont waste your time looking, but if interested contact me, I have the exact location. Treasure Hunters need not apply.
The investigation of this is for purely Historical Information.
Best Regards All
P.S The is a wonderful website Gummi!!!!
