Thou dost stir up the hornet\'s nest!

I think that you will find that the U-Boat forum crew will unanimously give Das Boot the two thumbs up, however, the movie and the book apparently resulted in a lot of controversy and bad blood within the actual U-boat community.

Some folks viewed Buchheim as a brilliant author who pretty much depicted life in a U-boat very accurately. Others, however, viewed Buchheim as a bit of a traitor and that his deptiction of U-boot men was uncomplimentary and overemphasised the negative aspects.

I personally enjoyed the book and the movie, however, I wasn\'t there so I wouldn\'t know either way.

I refer you to an excellent book by Professor Micheal Hadley entitled: \"Count Not the Dead\". A good portion of the book is devoted to the fallout from \"Das Boot\".
