The boats were scrapped and the steel was used for German war industry.
Why?
For standardisation..,many types of ships, many problems with spare parts.
Why the Germans not use the French dock facilities? I think from security reasons.., no Resistance agents, no problems with sabotages.
I know from visit in Bretagne, that only German personnel was used for repairing of u-boots.
