<HTML>The VW engine had one crankshaft with 2 banks of cylinders mounted 180 degrees apart. The Fairbanks-Morse had 2 crankshafts and 1 bank of cylinders. 1 crankshaft was at the top of the cylinders, 1 at the bottom. Each cylinder had 2 pistons in it. There were no cylinder heads. The pistons were timed to meet in the center of the cylinder for the compression stroke. At that point, fuel will be injected into the space between the pistons, where it will ignite and cause the power stroke. There will need to be a blower to force the intake of fresh air which will also force out the exhaust.</HTML>
