<HTML>That is not what I wrote, but it is an alternative explanation. The point is that the security of Enigma was never investigated with adequate thoroughness. The Germans had all the pieces of the puzzle including Zuse\'s programmable digital computers, but did not put them together.
The naval radar story is another one where it is not clear if we are dealing with real incompetence or treason. Again we have someone in a critical position, Capt. Stummel, who was either incompetent or a traitor. Since I have no biographical information about him, it is hard to make a call. The Luftwaffe was quite sophisticated about radar, so saying the Germans is off base, underestimating radar was confined to the Kriegsmarine.
