Poor coordination

You have put your finger on one of the most important failures in the 3rd Reich, lack of coordination. Hitler believed in competition. His management style was to pit one underling against another and this carried through to weapons development. The lack of cooperation between the Luftwaffe and Kriegsmarine is legend and a major reason the Battle of the Atlantic was not won in 1940/41.

There were 5 companies involved in making radar for the Wehrmacht and they did not talk to each other on any kind of regular basis. The radar experts from the Kriegsmarine, Luftwaffe and Heer did not talk to each other either. The only coordination between the services happened if a company had customers in more than one service, since there was coordination within the companies. The jet engine story is similar. There were 4 companies (Heinkel, Junkers, BMW and Daimler Benz) involved in developing and making turbojet engines and they too did not talk to each other and the RLM did not coordinate. In summary, there was no formal coordination, but there were occasional contacts which were quite inadequate for a timely exchange of views.
