Hi Mike,

The Type II was designed to carry 6 torpedoes and sometimes they did however it turned out that it wasn't practical to do so on most war patrols with all of the other supplies necessary etc. and they typically only carried 5. That's why this site just lists the Type II as carrying only 5. The 6th torpedo also affected the boat's trim.

So both are correct - the Type II did (sometimes) carry 6 torpedoes but not often after the war started :) I suspect whatever GWX is has used this forum as a source of information in the past as I know this topic has been discussed here before.
