"Wintergarten" definition

Hello all,

Can someone clarify the term "wintergarten".

Babelfish translates it as winter garden....I don't see what relation
this could have to u-boats.

My understanding of "wintergarten" is the extended platforms seen on the
VIIC and IX variants on which the AA are mounted.

Correct? or is there a more technical definition.
