Hi John,
No idea really but I presume the Brits caught on to how those mines worked & came up with a more effective technique and better equipment for sweeping them. The whole U-boat War was about move and counter move. Both sides came up with new technology that had to be countered by the other side. In the end Germany was simply overwhelmed by the combined resources of the allies.
On the other hand, perhaps one or more of them are still there....
