10-09-1941 Captured with 36 crew members of the U 501 sank in the Straits of Denmark South of Greenland, 62°50´ N x 37°50´ W, by depth charges and ramming from the Canadian corvettes HMCS Moosejaw K 164 and HMCS Chambly K 116, 11 dead (blamed by his crew for a very prompt surrender). Canadian war captivity in P.O.W Camp. Repatriated in
15-01-1945 Repatriated and where it was placed under detention defendant of cowardice before the enemy in Wilhelmshaven
27-02-1945 Committed suicide by shooting during detention in Wilhelmshaven.
