Hi Paul,

I am currently researching U-boat surrenders to Loch Eriboll in May 1945.
I have identified 32 individual vessels so far but I am sure the list is incomplete.
And there are anomalies. U-236 is evidently pictured in official Admiralty photographs released for issue on 12 May, whereas all the reference lists say this vessel was damaged in an aircraft attack on 4 May and scuttled thereafter in Schleimundung.
And furthermore an official war reporter present in Loch Eriboll at the time identified U-297 there, whereas that vessel was recorded as sunk off Orkney on 6 December 1944. The reporter's references to U-297 should more correctly be to U-293 (Klingspoor), which surrendered to Loch Ailsh and was therefore never at Loch Eriboll.
In addition there are several (or many) U-boats in the listings identified as surrendering to Loch Eriboll which actually sailed direct to Loch Ryan.
Most of the U-boats impounded in Loch Eriboll were eventually transferred to Operation Deadlight and destroyed.
I hope to collate all the data with a view to eventual small-scale local publication.
Any assistance or additional data from any member or other source concerning boats in Loch Eriboll would be gratefully received.
And I am eagerly awaiting publication of Terry Andrews' book on Operation Deadlight, a project which seems to be enjoying a gestation period far in excess of even elephantine proportions!!
Regards and best wishes.
