According to Paul Lawton it is the experimental Engelmann boat, VS5. See Rossler, Eberhard, The U-Boat: The Evolution and Technical Development of the German Submarine, (chapter 4: U-Boat Construction from 1935 to 1939),Naval Institute Press, Annapolis, MD. 1975, ISBN 0-87021-966-9, page 121.
