The cavity magnetron was found in a British bomber shot down near Rotterdam in late 1942. For various organizational reasons it took quite a bit of time to reverse engineer, so it was not until spring 1945 that a 10 cm radar was combat ready. It is a sad story of inefficiency and bureaucratic bungling.

I presume the Japanese obtained a sample themselves or via the Germans. There were certainly lots of samples flying and floating around and the device is rather robust, so it easily survives a crash.
