<HTML>Dear Superkraut,
night aerial warfare is much less off topic than one can imagine. There are considerable similarities between them and one is the loss rate. Submarine service was clearly the deadliest business in WW2; second come night bombing. The Allied usually considered a failure a mission if more than the 5% of the crews failed to return. With 10% losses someone had to face an enquiry. The British themselves consider RAF Air Marshall Harris a controversial character. Admiral Doenitz insisted in sending men in action knowing they had one chance out of four to return. I can understand him only because he lost both his sons in combat. Only Japanese Admiral Onishi did \"better\", conceiving the kamikaze attacks (sometime also underwater, with the “Kaiten” manned torpedoes), but at least he had the guts to commit suicide.
By the way, treason is one of the unpredictable variables of war and it is like a coin, with two sides: the other one is called intelligence.
Regards
Walter M.
