Thanks very much Jerry--and "relative bearing" makes sense, whereas I couldn't get "bearing" to fit in some instances. "target angle" also works--I couldn't figure that one out at all.
I can pass along a note on reconciling time that had me puzzled for a long time:
German times are consistent with CET (Central European Time), six hours different from EST (Eastern Standard Time) In May of 1942, EDT (Eastern Daylight Time) became EWT (Eastern War Time), five hours different from GWT. Some forces, however,including the Merchant Marine, continued using EST for log entries. It also appears Canadian forces used EST for ship and aircraft log entries. So a researcher will find these inconsistencies, and need to look for keys such as time of sunset, dark,etc., to reconcile. I hope this is helpful, if you haven't already noticed it. JR
