U-979 was rammed by Northern Spray on May 4th and lost her adic dome,the 979 escaped but then at 0115 on May 5th she attacked a small convoy,firing a "gnat" and survived not only 55 depth charges but also another ramming, receiving only "slight superfical damage" the report states that they could hear one of the charges rolling about on the casing, Reports state that only one U-boat would be stationed in that area at a time, and the commander of the 979 had reported that this was a very good attack area
