Are there any German records of the contacts and or engagements between U-boats and US Civil Air Patrol Coastal Patrol aircraft?
When debriefed after WWII by allied intelligence Admiral Doenitz is reputed to have given "those damn little yellow airplanes" (IE CAP) as his primary reason for withdrawing his boats from US coastal waters.
Given the weak construction of the aircraft and the German's increasing tendency to fight back with flak it is likely that some of the 50+ MIA CAP aircraft were shot down, but I can find no such records from the USA.
