A WW2 German watch

I recently acquired a black dial watch of 1939 vintage. It's marked "ASTER" on the dial (Champagne W Co of Biel). It has an AS1130 mvt (the Wehrmacht model to the Swiss). Chromed case with SS back. The back is stamped "DU". There are also 2 stampings of "u.701" on the back. I know of no relationship between a "DU" watch and the "u.701" stamping. I've researched the history of U701--interesting. I realize that this is probably a reach, on my part, but have any of you ever seen a watch "aftermarked" by a crew member for "his" boat? I usually collect "DH" and "D" watches. The "DU" watches are scarce and the meaning of "DU" is debateable.
Thank you for reading this endless post! Any opinions are most welcome.
